  4. This application is shareware - you may evaluate it for 30 days. If you
  5. continue to use it beyond this time then you must register!

  7. Introduction
  8. ------------
  9. Anagram is a word puzzle for one or two players. A word must be unscrambled
  10. by dragging letters back into their correct order - hints are available for
  11. difficult words.
  12.  
  13. Using Anagram
  14. -------------
  15. Load Anagram in the normal way. When you click on the icon on the icon bar
  16. the Anagram window will open, with icons on the top row. A word from the
  17. default database is also selected and scrambled. Anagram supports Acorns
  18. interactive !Help so load it to find out what the icons do.
  19.  
  20. To move a letter, place the mouse pointer over it & hold down the left
  21. button - slide the letter to where you want it to go and release the button.
  22. Depending on which menu option is selected, either the two letters are
  23. interchanged, or letters are slid as a row.
  24.  
  25. When a word is completed a tone is made and the score increases. The amount
  26. scored for each word depends on the word length and the number of hints.
  27.  
  28. Menu Options
  29. ------------
  30. Clicking Menu over the main window brings up a range of options - most are
  31. pretty obvious as to what they do, the rest are explained below:
  32.  
  33. a) Reset Files Path - if you have changed the directory used for word sets
  34.    (see below) then this will reset it to its previous setting
  35. b) Save New Path - again, if you change the directory used for word sets
  36.    then selecting this item makes your change permanent. Each time you load
  37.    Anagram your new directory will be used
  38. c) Save As Default - makes the current set of words the default one; ie the
  39.    set of words used each time Anagram is loaded
  40. d) Swap & Slide determine how letters are moved when you drag one of them
  41.    to a new position

  43. Word Sets
  44. ---------
  45. If you select the files icon then a directory called Words (inside the main
  46. Anagram directory) is scanned. You can add further word sets to this
  47. directory if you wish - next time you start up Anagram the extra sets will
  48. be detected. However you can set up a completely different directory if you
  49. wish by simply dragging a new directory onto the main window. If you want to
  50. make this directory permanent (ie the one used each time Anagram is used)
  51. then choose the 'Save New Path' item on the Anagram main menu.

  53. Word sets can also be loaded directly into Anagram by dragging the word set
  54. (which is just an Edit file) onto the main window.

  56. Registration
  57. ------------
  58. The registration fee for Anagram is 3.99 - this will keep you informed about
  59. upgrades as they become available as well as removing the 'unregistered'
  60. windows that pop up. You will also receive a simple editor so you can
  61. modify the word databases. To register make a cheque to M. Smith for 3.99
  62. and print clearly your address as well as who you want the program to be
  63. registered to. Include the name of the application on your note (ie Anagram).

  91. Iridium Range
  92. -------------
  93. Shown below is a brief description (E & O.E) of applications by the same
  94. author. Virtually all are of an educational nature, running under the WIMP.
  95. Most work on RISC OS 2, all work on RISC OS 3. I have not tried them on a
  96. RISC PC, but they ought to be ok!
  97.  
  98. Geography:
  99. * Where & Grid - Designed for Key Stage 3, Where & Grid are two
  100.   complementary applications. They test locations of countries (Europe &
  101.   Africa), towns, counties (UK only) rivers, montains, bearings, four and
  102.   six figure grid references. Currently the set covers the UK, Europe
  103.   & Africa.
  104. * OS_Symbols - Designed for Key Stage 3, OS_Symbols tests knowledge of a
  105.   range of OS Map symbols. A particular symbol is displayed and the correct
  106.   description must be found - time limits can be set.
  107. * Forecast - Produce your own weather maps just like on TV with symbols and
  108.   isobars. Variety of maps supplied; wind chill can be determined.
  109. * Predict - Predict the weather for the next 24 hours by supplying data
  110.   such are pressure and wind direction.
  111. * Link - A 'blockbuster' type quiz game, where all the words are connected
  112.   with Key Satge 3 geography.
  113.  
  114. Science:
  115. * Circuit symbols - Tests knowledge of circuit and electronic symbols
  116.   against the clock.
  117. * Assist: Science AT4 - Produce a wide range of worksheets for topics on 
  118.   AT4. Each topic has a wide range categories including word searches,
  119.   crosswords, True or False, Anagrams and Missing words. Worksheets are
  120.   created from a databank, so they are different each time they are printed.
  121. * Assist: Equations - Produce four types of worksheets based on chemical
  122.   equations. Categories are Balancing equations, Missing product, Missing
  123.   reactant and Right or Wrong. Because a databank is used, worksheets are
  124.   different each time they are printed.
  125. * Assist: Periodic Table - Print a customised Periodic Table. Displayed data
  126.   can include mass number, density, boiling point, melting point,
  127.   radioactive isotopes, atomic radius, atomic volume, covalent radius,
  128.   ionisation energy, & electronegativity. Graphs and periodic trends can
  129.   also be produced.
  130. * Periodic Table - Click on a particular element to display relevant data. 
  131. * ArcMedia: Space - A simple hypermedia system on the Solar System. Designed
  132.   to be 1Meg RISC OS 2 friendly. Variety of NASA images.
  133. * Multiple Choice Chemistry - Several hundred multiple questions (some with
  134.   pictures) covering GCSE Chemistry. Time limits can be set.
  135. * Multiple Choice Physics - Several hundred multiple questions (some with
  136.   pictures) covering GCSE Physics. Time limits can be set.

  138. Word Puzzles:
  139. * Word Search - Application for creating word searches. Control over grid
  140.   size, displayed fonts, grid shape & borders is provided.
  141. * Do Search - Compliments the Word Search application. Data files from Word
  142.   Search can be dragged into Do Search, allowing the word search to be done
  143.   on screen
  144. * X-Word - Creates and prints crosswords from words and clues provided by
  145.   the user. Control over grid size, displayed fonts & borders is provided.
  146. * Do-Word - Compliments the X-Word application. Data files from X-Word can
  147.   be dragged into Do Word, allowing the crossword to be done on screen.
  148. * Anagram - Reconstruct the jumbled up word by solid dragging of the
  149.   letters. Hint feature is also provided.
  150. * Guess - Guess the word chosen by the computer. Hint feature provided.
  151. * Bottle - Hangman type game, but with bottles. Hints also provided.
  152. * Cloze - Removes words (user can determine how many) from a passage of
  153.   text. User must then reconstruct the entire text by entering words into
  154.   gaps in the text. Add your own passages of text easily. Summary can be
  155.   printed.

  157. Picture Puzzles:
  158. * Blocksaw - Jigsaw type application, using blocks for the pieces. Accepts
  159.   sprite and draw files. Size of the grid can be varied to cover a wide
  160.   range of abilities.
  161. * Tile - Picture is broken into a series of tiles, and then the tiles mixed
  162.   up. The picture must be recreated by swapping tiles. Uses sprite or draw
  163.   files; allows the number of tiles to be varied and has three difficulty
  164.   levels.
  165. * Slide - Sliding block puzzle. Uses sprite or draw files; allows the number
  166.   of tiles to be varied and has three difficulty levels.
  167. * Rows n Cols - Recreate a picture (either sprite or draw) by sliding rows
  168.   or columns into their correct positions.
  169.  
  170. Miscellaneous:
  171. * Link - A 'blockbuster' type quiz game for up to three players. Database
  172.   can be easily modified to include your own words.
  173. * Multiple Choice (General) - Multiple choice quiz, some with pictures. Many
  174.   general knowledge topics covered. Editor also available so you can create
  175.   your own tests.
  176. * Multiple Choice Maths - Several hundred multiple questions (some with
  177.   pictures) covering GCSE Maths. Time limits can be set.
  178. * ArcMedia (Cats) - A simple hypermedia system on the Cat Family. Designed
  179.   to be 1Meg RISC OS 2 friendly. 
  180. * Word Tester - Tests knowledge of the correct word for numbers from one to
  181.   one hundred in various languages. Played against the clock.
  182. * Facemaker - Use your computer to design a face, then either print or
  183.   export as a sprite file.
  184. * Desktop Turtle - Create on screen graphics with a 'Turtle' within a
  185.   desktop window. Wide range of commands supported including numeric
  186.   variables as well as sprites and sounds. Other features include variable
  187.   line thickness, auto symmetry and backdrops.
  188. * Birthday & Today. Produce an A4 sized poster on events taking place in
  189.   history either on your Birthday or any particular day. Information
  190.   displayed includes Famous Birthdays on the same day, events, films, songs
  191.   and sporting events. Variety of borders/watermarks provided.
  192. * School CV & CV+. School leavers (CV) or sixth form students (CV+) can
  193.   quickly create a CV by entering data. Layouts can be chosen from a
  194.   predefined set, and fonts changed. DTP style output without having to use
  195.   a DTP application.
